From the very first sketches, we wanted Spring Grove Stables — our coworking space and venue in Hebden Bridge — to do more than one job. By day it’s dedicated desks and meeting rooms for hire; in the evenings and at weekends it can become a workshop, a pop-up shop, a classroom or an event space — which makes it one of the more flexible options for venue hire in Hebden Bridge. That only works if the building is designed for it. Here’s how we built flexibility in — and how we keep adapting it.
Rooms that rearrange themselves

None of our rooms has a fixed layout. Nutclough, the smallest, can be a calm room for one-to-one and therapy sessions or a compact meeting space. Salem can run as a boardroom, a training room or a workshop, just by moving the tables and chairs. Both are available for ad hoc meeting room hire by the hour — no membership needed.

We’ve deliberately kept furnishings simple and movable, so guests can tell us what they need and we can set the room up to suit.
Lighting that moves with the room

We spent a long time choosing the lighting. Beyond lighting the space, we wanted every room to feel premium — and to cope with being rearranged. Three-circuit track lighting gave us that: spotlights can be moved and re-angled whenever the layout changes, and the emergency lighting needed for a commercial building sits on the same track with no extra fittings.
Somewhere to put everything
Flexibility needs storage. Extra chairs, whiteboards, flip charts and cleaning kit all live in a lockable storage room, so a room can be cleared or kitted out quickly and everything is out of sight when it isn’t needed.
Kit you can borrow

When someone on the Hebden Bridge Facebook page asked whether anywhere local had a green screen, we were happy to say we do. It’s 2.5 metres wide, white on the reverse for product photography, and available with any room booking. It’s also why the space suits filming and photo shoots.
Venue hire in Hebden Bridge: evenings and weekends

The real test came with Booty in the Valley, our indoor tabletop sale. It was the first time we’d had more than ten people in at once — between 25 and 40 people were moving around 14 stalls across the building all day, and it worked brilliantly.

Since then the building has hosted creative workshops, a children’s homeopathy talk, a business forum Christmas do, and Sew School — beginners’ sewing evenings run by Natalie, where students leave with a tote bag they’ve made themselves.
If you’re looking for a venue to hire in Hebden Bridge for a workshop, class, pop-up, networking event or team day, Crown Works and the rest of the building can be booked for evenings and weekends. Get in touch with your idea.
Changing as we learn

Being flexible also means listening. Guest feedback led us to move a couch into Nutclough to make it more comfortable for therapy and couples sessions, and to offer it by the hour rather than in half-days. When more people signed up for dedicated desks, we reconfigured Crown Works to give everyone more room — and our coworking members still get the run of the meeting rooms when they’re free.
We documented the whole build as it happened — you can scroll back through it all on our Instagram.
If you’ve got an idea for using the space — however unusual — we’d love to hear it.
